It’s a fact today that over sixty percent of Americans are overweight. Millions of these people are on “diets” every week, only to become frustrated because they are not losing the weight. Continue reading for my personal success story. One morning in February 2004 I woke up and looked in the mirror at a body that I disliked immensely. I had put on the weight (un-wanted pounds) that we are all told we will when we reach mid-age. I had always been a very small person never weighing more than 110 pounds at 5 foot – 0 inches, and wore a size 2. Not the case anymore. I was at 128 pounds. My clothes were too tight, and I had already purchased larger sizes twice. Now in a size 6 and getting prepared to go into a size 8, I decided enough is enough, it is time to find a way to take off pounds, not buy a larger size only to put on more weight. I was feeling sluggish, and had little or no energy and in general just not feeling good about myself. A lot of people said, “I wish I weighed 128 pounds” and thought it was silly what I was doing. However, only being 5 foot tall, 18 to 20 pounds to me is like 40 to 50 pounds to someone several inches taller.
Because I like to eat, and I wanted to be able to eat regular foods, not prepared foods, or get involved with some weight loss program that requires weekly meetings, weigh-ins, etc. I began my research to come up with a weight reduction program that did not require any of those. I studied portion sizes, what foods to eat and what foods to avoid, foods high in calories etc. I began to think this might be difficult, having to re-think meal times, as I had never had to worry about what I could or could not eat, or how much before. I was determined to make this work, so I continued on.
After a period of time putting together what I thought was a good program based on my research, I put it to work. At the end of the 1st week, I lost 4 pounds. I was ecstatic. I continued the program another week finding that this was very easy, and I was getting plenty to eat and was not feeling deprived.
At the end of the 2nd week I lost another 2.25 pounds, and I could begin to feel my clothes getting loose. I was amazed as I began to eat properly just how fast the weight was coming off, energy level was on the increase, and I was beginning to walk 30 minutes a day 5 days a week. It doesn’t take much exercise, but a little helps, as it increases the metabolism and lets you burn more calories.
At the end of the 3rd week I lost another 2.50 pounds and my success continued until I obtained my goal of 18 pounds in just 7 weeks. Even after going into the stabilization period I lost a few more pounds, which is quite normal I found during my research, but as I began to add foods that were restricted during the weight loss period back into my diet I went back to my goal weight, which was 110 pounds.
I have maintained that weight since May just because I learned to eat the proper foods and portion size.
